How to Write an Effective Property Listing

Selling a property doesn’t have to be difficult, as long as you know what you are doing. When you’re selling an agricultural or rural property, it’s important that you use a narrative writing style and include plenty of good images. Keep reading to learn how to write an effective property listing.

Bring People in with a Good Headline

You need to grab people’s attention and bring them in to read your listing. Without a good headline, your property listing is dead in the water because no one will read it. You only have a second, as the reader passes by, to get their attention. So how will you make them do a double take? Give people a reason to stop. Look at the other listings and you’ll notice they are very similar. You can use humor or drama to differentiate your listing from the crowd. Once you’ve hooked them with your interesting headline it’s time to craft a good opening line. What you’ll want to do here is quickly inform the reader on what your ad will be about.

Use a Narrative Style of Writing

“When you’re going over the features of the property, it pays to use a narrative style of writing. Tell the reader a story to make it interesting,” suggests Gary Bilski, content writer at Book Report Writing. Be sure to start with the primary features; this will include things such as the number of square footage, the number of bathrooms and bedrooms, and interesting bonuses such as a large backyard or a pool. For rural or agricultural properties, you could try writing a narrative that will allow the reader to picture themselves carrying out tasks outside on the property. Your narrative should help the prospective buyer envision themselves in a feature of your listing. Don’t just tell them there is a backyard pool, write a sentence in which they can imagine themselves having a great time with that feature.

Good Photos Help a Lot

There’s nothing like a photo to make a strong and lasting impression. Your description helps a lot, but photos are crucial to the reader imagining themselves in the property. Include plenty of high-quality photographs of all the major features of the property. There’s no reason to be skimpy with photos; as long as they are properly done, they can only help your case. It’s important that any photos you include are well lit and free of clutter. If you’re selling a rural or agricultural property, try and include as many photos of your various buildings so the reader knows what they are getting into.

Your Call to Action Matters

When you’re wrapping things up, it’s time to include that all-important call-to-action. It’s wise to create a sense of urgency as you prompt your reader to do something. Leave them with the impression that, not only are they considering a great property, but it might not be on the market for much longer. Encourage them to act while they can, because if they take too long, someone else will snap the place up.
