Excerpted from The Farm to Market Handbook by Janet Hurst.

  • Find a newsletter template online.
  • Start with a one-page (front and back) format.
  • Create a header with your farm name, logo, and contact information.
  • Write the newsletter with the current season in mind. Include details about your farm but don’t get too personal. Write about your crops, your animals, and other pertinent details.
  • Include a calendar and make note of the farmers’ markets you will be attending.
  • Include a recipe for a seasonal dish.
  • Note any special events at your farm.
  • Note special days such as National Tulip Day (or make up days to celebrate your specialty crop).
  • Include plenty of pictures.
  • Publish your newsletter on paper to hand out at the market, and archive them on your Facebook page.
  • Send the newsletter to your mailing list as well
