Tips to Make Your Small Space Comfortable and Cozy

A home with limited living space can be tricky to decorate. Once you add in all your basics, it leaves you with a few choice places where you can situate accent pieces that’ll tie everything together. Thankfully, that’s all you need to make sure these smaller areas feel as pleasant as possible. Here are a few tips and tricks you can use to create the homiest space of your dreams.

1. Add a Few Blankets

Picture this – a bed, topped with fuzzy blankets and a handful of pillows. Not much is cozier than that. These pieces are generally inexpensive, which makes them easy to switch out along with the changing seasons. Depending on the color, blankets and pillows can also add a bit of vibrancy to the space. When they aren’t in use, stow them away under your bed for easy access.

2. Paint the Walls Warm Colors

There’s no need to keep your rooms all one color. Accent walls are a smart way to introduce a bit of dimension to a space, all while keeping it cozy. If you’re a renter, don’t fret. These days, removable wallpaper is all the rage. Warm paint tones also help create a snug environment. Go with creamy neutral shades, so they work year-round. Then, you can switch up your accent wall as you please. Try to avoid bold colors, as they’ll make the area more jarring.

3. Regulate the Temperature

The best way to keep a small space comfortable is with temperature control. You never want it to get too hot or too cold. Try a smart thermometer that manages this wirelessly without hassle. You may also wish to weatherstrip windows and place stoppers under doors to save as much energy as possible. Fans are another great solution, as you can find ones that don’t take up a lot of surface area.

4. Place Trinkets Throughout

You never want an already small space to feel cluttered, but the right balance of decorative accents can achieve a perfectly comfortable setting. Stack books along your windowsill or place tiny plants on your desk. Candles and pictures create a cozy and personable feel. Mirrors help reflect light and open up the overall space. Remember, don’t go overboard – only a few will do the trick.

5. Mix in Fun Textures

Try not to design your space with the same textures. Woods and metals create an industrial look, so try to place plush rugs and headboards with cushions in their midst. Tapestries are the perfect way to achieve an artistic look on a budget. Mainly, you want to layer different items to create a more in-depth look. In this case, the more you incorporate softer features, the more comfortable your room will feel.

6. Create Structure

For rooms that don’t have a lot of definition, it’s hard to determine where to place pieces of furniture throughout. This notion is especially true if you live in a studio apartment – where do the couch and television go? Do your best to create distinct areas. Place your bed against a wall or in a corner and go from there. A desk or dresser looks lovely under a window. When you create more structure for a space, you can design a comfortable atmosphere.

7. Introduce Mood Lighting

Sometimes, areas with bright lights feel a bit harsh. This fact is especially true coming from a ceiling fixture. Switch out your current bulbs for soft white LEDs. Doing so will create a warm glow in the room and save you a bit of money at the same time. You can also hang up string lights or purchase an electronic fireplace for a similar effect. Then, your space will feel so much more relaxed.

Enjoy Your Relaxed Space

With pillows, throws and the right paint colors, you can create the perfect atmosphere in even the smallest of rooms. Be sure to add trinkets to personalize, and don’t forget to regulate the temperature. You don’t want to get too toasty! Any room can become comfortable and cozy with these tips and tricks.
